As we hurtle through January 2023, we can’t help but reflect on the journey of 2022. We are grateful to have made it through another year, and our events have been amazing. It’s been such a pleasure to be back out there, meeting customers old and new and catching up with other small businesses. Owning a small, independent business is not for the faint of heart. While it brings enormous joy and satisfaction, there are times when it can be quite overwhelming, making all the decisions yourself and having sleepless nights wondering if they were the right decisions. It was great to talk with like-minded people and know that we are all fighting the same battles, with highs and lows. So far, so good though. We will just carry on doing what we love, and it never gets less shiny.
This is the time of year when we start laying down our vinegars. This is the most exciting part for us, as the unit smells wonderful. We are currently working on our tarragon vinegar and the smell is amazing. It is consistently sought after by many of our customers as a real store cupboard staple. Next in line is our horseradish vinegar, which we look forward to making as we adore the pungent smells of fresh horseradish. Plenty of ventilation is required when handling this little darling!
Last year, we were blessed to receive three Great Taste Awards for our vinegars and were delighted to be entered into the Golden Fork and overall winner for our Plum Vinegar. Unfortunately, we were not successful on this occasion, as we were actually on holiday and didn’t even know until a week after the event had taken place in London. We were gutted that we didn’t get a chance to go to London and showcase our nomination!
Onward and upward, we will try again. We’re not sure which vinegar we will enter this year, but we will definitely not book any breaks until after September, just in case we are lucky enough to achieve a 3-star rating that might be good enough to be a Golden Fork contender.
